Mary Kennedy is an experienced teacher and performer. She plays in two Kingston, Ontario bands Irish Roots and Fiddle Earth. She also competes regularly in fiddle contests.
She has a BA from Queen`s University majoring in music, and has taught fiddle and mandolin for seven years both privately and at Renaissance School of Music (now Long and McQuade, Kingston, Ontario).
Mary teaches children age ten and up and adults of all ages. Lessons are geared to the interest of the student, using both music (note reading) and ear training. Learning should be enjoyable, with a goal to improve student`s skills and increase their enjoyment of playing music.
Several times a year Mary organizes gatherings where her students have an opportunity to play with their fellow students. National Fiddling Day (held the third Saturday in May) is the culminating event of a year of lessons – celebrating fiddling in Canada.
